As writers, publishers, and believers in the power of language, we know how vital the First Amendment and free expression are to ensuring that books of all kinds are published for readers with every interest, from everywhere.
At Penguin Random House, we view one of our most important roles as standing for and defending these freedoms, and one of our biggest partners and allies in this cause continues to be PEN America. PEN’s mission to defend free expression, elevate marginalized voices, and foster dialogue across boundaries mirrors our core values.
Last week, our CEO, Markus Dohle, announced a new opportunity for individuals from our Penguin Random House community to join with PEN America in support of these principles. From now until December 31, 2016, Penguin Random House will match membership dues, offering all of our authors a PEN membership for just $62.50—half the normal cost of annual membership dues for 2017. You can take advantage of this by visiting pen.org/prh and using our special code.
As a member of PEN America, you will receive regular updates on free-expression priorities in the U.S. and globally. You will have opportunities to raise your voice as an advocate for free speech and writers at risk, and be invited to meaningful literary events that celebrate writers and their works. You will also have access to PEN America’s staff for guidance and support in fighting censorship and advancing literature as a means for mutual understanding. Visit the PEN America website to learn more about the organization’s newest initiatives and to sign up.
