At Penguin Random House, our mission—to ignite a universal passion for reading by creating books for everyone—guides us daily. It fuels our desire to not only publish with excellence, but help narrow the gap between the world today and the world we aspire to, one that is more just, healthy, and equitable.
We are pleased to share Penguin Random House’s 2021–2022 Social Impact Report, which summarizes our 2021 global commitment to serving our communities beyond the books we publish. This report details how we are working to enact change within our industry and beyond and serves as an accountability measure as we pursue our goals across each of our social impact commitment areas: Free Expression & Joy of Reading, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Environment & Sustainability.
Throughout the past two years, we’ve focused on defending the right to read in the face of book bans, increasing access to books across the globe, creating an equitable and inclusive workplace for all, and, ultimately, continuing to take care of our planet and its people.
While we are proud of all we have accomplished, we know there’s much more work to do. We welcome your collaborative ideas and your feedback on this report. Together, we can do our part to help build a better future for generations to come!
